A brief story of our Diocese. Bishop Gerth following in the spirit of Preservation of the American Episcopate, began our Ministry to help the abandoned of Faith. Upon his death in 2010, Bishop Marshal enlarged the direction of our Diocese towards folks in the last stages of life with ministries in five Texas Counties and one ministry in California.
In 2018 Bishop Marshall retired and became a Patriarch in a Catholic Ministry, one of our Priests followed to assist in his new challenge; Rt. Rev.’d Dr. Black took the office of Bishop of the Diocese. Dr. Black has been in ministry since 1985 serving positions in Utah and in Texas. He had come to the Diocese in 2012, he planted a ministry in Carrollton 2013, assisted a plant in Garland 2014, and started a Mission in Ellis County 2015.
Dr. Black was off to a good start, then came covid in early 2020 that closed the doors of ministry to assisted living, nursing homes, and hospice. Our Priests left to find duties in other churches, one passed, and one retired. In that same year, Bishop Black found that the Anglican Church in Waxahachie had closed. The minister had become ill and could not longer perform services. The Laity moved to a different Diocese and location. In early 2021 Bishop Black began negations to purchase the property.
At the time of purchase, the grounds needed a lot of care and the buildings needed updating. Fortunately the air conditioner was fairly new, the foundation of the chapel had been leveled, and the roof was secure but on borrowed time. The Chapel was re-Consecrated as Grace Anglican Church.
Bishop Black and his wife Karen have made themselves busy in the fixing, remodeling, and painting. Most of the inside of the buildings have been updated, the work on the outside is about 25% complete. They have had a little help here and there along the way, and are trying to rebuild a congregation at the same time of the restoration of the buildings.
The greatest need is the roof on the Chapel. We had a severe hail storm in March of 2025 that aged the roof faster than desired. Damage from the storm also brought broken windows, fallen trees, and damage to some of the wood siding. Most of this damage has been fixed, we are still working to replace some of the exterior wood.
Contributions will be used for the continued restoration of the property. Your gift is tax deductible and will be greatly appreciated.
